Federico Macheda, the Italian youngster, who scored the winner against Aston Villa, have repeated his act. This time against Sundarland. Manchester United won the match 2-1 to enable them to stay 1 point ahead of Liverpool with a game in hand.

United dominated the opening minutes and was rewarded when Paul Scholes put them into the lead in the 19th minute by scoring a rare headed goal. Sunderland somehow got themselves back into the match when Kenwyne Jones scored in the 55th minute to level the match.

And it was left to Macheda who had just come off the bench in the 75th minute to score the winner within seconds of coming on.

Manchester United face an uphill task in the 2nd leg of the Champions League quarter final after being held 2-2 by Porto at Old Trafford.

Porto dominated the match from start and take the lead in the 4th minute through Cristian Rodriguez.  Wayne Rooney equalize in the  14th minute to bring the match back on level terms.

Manchester United took the lead in the 85th min through Carlos Tevez who turned in Rooney back flick. Porto score in the 89th minute through Mariano Gonzalez and put the tie in Porto’s favour with 2 away goals.

Now Manchester United have to win at Porto’s Dragao Stadium, where no British teams have win in 40 years,to advance to the semi final.

Federico Macheda, the 17 year old boy from Italy, scored an injury time winner against Aston Villa at Old Trafford to enable champion Manchester United to beat Villa by 3-2 and return to the top of the English Premier League table.

United are without six 1st team regulars. Wayne Rooney,Paul Scholes and Nemanja Vidic are suspended. While Rio Ferdinand,Dimitar Berbatov and Anderson are all injured. Making United to miss their 1st choice strikers and defenders. Gary Neville,making a come back after a long lay off and is expected to play the right back role,have to play in center defence with youngster Jonny Evans.

Villa dominate the opening minutes before a wonder goal from the brilliant Cristiano Ronaldo in the 14th minute break their resistant. Brad Friedel, the Villa custodian, is adjudge to handle a backpass from James Milner. From the resulting free kick, Ronaldo scored after a brush of the ball from Ryan Giggs.

Despite the goal, Villa still pressed on through their forwards Gabriel Agbonlahor and Ashley Young. Edwin Van Der Sar has to be called upon to keep out Villa on 3 occasions but he is powerless to stop a John Carew’s header goal. The Norwegian crept between Neville and John O’Shea to steer a deft header into the bottom corner. 1-1. Sir Alex Ferguson responded by putting Neville back to full-back, giving up the unequal struggle of competing with Carew. He also urged the United fans to make more noise, indicating a fear that talent on its own was not going to be enough.

Ronaldo excels at many things. Chasing back is not one of them. And when he gifted possession to Stiliyan Petrov inside the visitors’ half just before the hour, he allowed the Bulgarian to sweep upfield unopposed. Agbonlahor hung around waiting for the cross Petrov presented Carew with the opportunity to supply, then rose majestically to find the bottom corner, just as his strike partner had done earlier. 2-1 to Villa.

Ferguson’s response was to introduce 17-year-old Macheda, which in itself said something about United’s plight.  It did however bring an immediate improvement and when Michael Carrick exchanged first-time passes with Giggs on the edge of the Villa box, he then presented Ronaldo with a lay-off. The world player of the year did not have a lot to aim at but he found the one small gap Friedel was unable to cover. Still, when Friedel denied Danny Welbeck two minutes from time, it seemed United would have to settle for a point. Macheda, however, had other ideas.

Following the win, United move back to the top of the League with a game in hand over Liverpool.
